You don’t have to be a Hawk or a Dove to appreciate the sacrifice of those who have gone before. I’m looking forward to a documentary debuting on The History Channel tonight on The Battle of Gettysburg. I’ve seen documentaries that glossed over the Battle of Gettysburg, but I think we’re getting a deeper dive tonight. It’ll take my mine off the ghastly cancellation of Chicago Code by Fox. They can keep all kinds of crappy entertainment going year after year (I’m talking to you Amazing Race) and yet Chicago Code gets the shortest of leashes. I still love you Jennifer! Anyway, I swear I can watch documentaries on all of our conflicts until the proverbial cows come home. I find it endlessly fascinating. Did anyone else who stumbled on this blog check out 60 Minutes this past Sunday? There was a moving story on this kid from Iowa who won the Congressional Medal of Honor for heroism in Afghanistan. According to the lovely Lara Logan, there are only 85 living recipients of this award. The young man was so thoroughly like-able it was a pleasure to see him receive the award. They say he’s moving to Colorado with his expectant wife. Talk about one of the good guys. There is just too much hate in this world. The Western way of life is coming under some serious fire, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have lived a majority of my time with complete freedom by the time it directly affects me. That is, thanks to the efforts of men like Staff Sargent Salvatore Giunta. Thank you to all the Sals out there.
I felt like posting today and since it might be another ten days until I get the chance again, here I am. I hope that is not the case, but my average has been terrible lately. I’m not doing anything crazy in this post. Just posting a few songs about war. Or at least something close. I’m just grabbing the closest dozen or whatever. Just something to think about. Enjoy…and Remember!
